About Brent
Brent began his career in education in 1996, teaching 4th and 5th grade for 15 years before transitioning into administration. He served as a site administrator for 11 years (two as a middle school assistant principal and nine as an elementary principal) and in 2022 transitioned to a district leadership role. He is currently serving as a Coordinator of Educational Services, supporting staff and families in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District.
Passionate about educational technology, Brent is always on the lookout for new ways tech can engage students and families, support student achievement, and maximize efficiency and productivity. While in the classroom, he used math review videos and iPod flash cards to promote 24/7 learning, and his students shared their learning with the world through their daily blog and classroom podcast.
Now in an administrative role, Brent strives to help educators improve their practice by leveraging the power of relationships, technology integration, and strong pedagogy. He loves sharing what he has learned through speaking engagements, his Teaching Tales and Matchstick Musings podcasts, blog, and social media.
In 2019, Brent realized a dream and became a published author, releasing Stories of EduInfluence with EduMatch Publishing. Described by one reader as "Chicken Soup for the Teacher's Soul," each chapter contains personal stories from his extensive experience in the classroom and front office, stories illustrating the life-changing power all educators possess.
In 2022, he saw the fulfillment of another dream, this one 25 years in the making, when he self-published his children's book The Gift, an illustrated tale for ages 8 and up filled with adventure, courage, hope, and a reminder that good things come to those who persevere.
Brent is husband to a wonderful wife and father to two amazing adult children. When not working, he loves to escape into a good fantasy novel.
