Audacity is a free audio recorder and editor available for both PC and Mac. If you're looking to create an audio podcast, Audacity is a fantastic tool to record and mix the audio. Brent and his students used Audacity to record the first several episodes of their classroom podcast, ColeyCast, and found it incredibly powerful yet easy to use.
In the videos below, Brent demonstrates how to record audio, edit audio tracks, import music, "duck" background music (make the music's volume lower when someone is speaking), and export the finished product as an MP3 file. Please note that these videos were recorded several years ago. Updates to the Audacity may result in the program looking a little tweaked from what you see in the videos, but hopefully they are helpful in getting you started. Happy recording!
